Gippsland mid-week Ride - Day One

Mike put on a mid week overnight ride into Gippsland including a visit to Wilsons Promontory.  I didn’t have two days spare, so today I decided to join the first half of the ride and come home again.

Six Uysseans (Mike, Gary, Jeff Nick, Pat, and Terry) continued on for the full ride.

I noticed that all 7 bikes today were shaft drive.  Mike's new Guzzi, Pat's Triumph, 4 Boxers (GS & RS) and my old Honda.

The ride section we did today was thoroughly enjoyable and Mike added quite a few very nice diversions on the way down to the Prom.

Once past Lang Lang, we took to backroads

through Kernot to Wonthaggi where we stopped for a cuppa/rest break.

We followed the coast road to Inverloch, down towards Cape Liptrap and stopped at Walkerville North,

where we could look across Bass Strait to the mountains of Wilsons Promontory – our lunch destination.  No, we never queried Mike’s navigation,

and it was a great side trip.  I hadn’t been down to the Prom for quite a while and again enjoyed the roads and views as we rode in.

Possibly a bit far for a day ride, but a great place to ride and visit.

We lunched at the general store – the area is being revitalised at the moment.  Some of us walked down to the bridge over Tidal River.

Lovely views to Whale Rock and Mt Oberon.

Then it was time to ride on again.

I waved the others farewell as I turned back towards Fish Creek and they rode on to Foster and eventually Yarram.

Riding down for a 9.00 AM start midweek through suburbs and school traffic certainly gave us something to talk about before we set off from Officer.   My run home was actually very good (traffic wise) and even once I got to the Monash Freeway at Pakenham, it kept flowing at a good pace.  I made it home after about 480 km riding with time to spare to before going on to watch the granddaughter play basketball.  They won narrowly after several lead changes in the last few minutes

Another great day.   Thanks for organising it Mike, and thanks to all who came along.

Cheers John Cook

I recorded the ride yesterday as shown. Yes, a really good ride through country we just can’t visit on a one day ride.
