Epping To Heathcote, 17/06/2026.
With a fine day forecast it up, out and into the fog to get to Epping, our starting point. Thankfully the fog lifted after passing Doncaster. A total of 14 riders were had for the ride. Brett, who Sam and I met on Saturday's BMW Customer Ride, was with us for his first ride with our group. He lives near Epping. Naturally Brett does the sensible thing and rides a BMW 1250 GS. With our present group of riders and bike choices I think he felt right at home. On Saturday while in Ballan with Sam at m/tea break on the BMW ride I handed out 5 of our leaflets to interested riders.
Our route to m/tea was Wallen, Romsey and stopping at Lancefield. Approaching Craigeburne there had been an accident on the inward side of the freeway blocking both lanes and causing an ever increasing size roadblock. Out to Lancefield was easy going, just taking a bit more care than usual because of the cool temperature and still damp roads. Lancefield was busy and quite a number of other bikes about.
With blue skies above us, we took to the Burke and Wills Rd on to the T-intersection near Redesdale. There we turned right and shortly after turned left onto a minor road through farm country that brings us out about 5 KMs on the Bendigo side of Heathcote. Many years ago the Sports Bike Club I rode with used this road sometimes and I've always liked it. Not many riders seem to know of it or use it. Heathcote was quickly arrived at and lunch for us was mostly done by a choice between the two bakeries nearby. Although only 14-15 degrees the clear skies and sun made it feel warmer. So did sitting inside the bakery.
Lunch over and back on the bikes for the easy way home. For most that consisted of the highway, Kilmore, Wallen and the Ring Rd. It wasn't a very long ride. I arrived home near 3pm. For winter I think this works well. Thanks to Sam for being Rear Rider. Thanks to all Riders who came. We can't do it without you.
