South Gippsland Ride 16th August 2026

Weather and forecasts certainly make a difference to weekend activities.  Thank you to the possibly more than 2 dozen people who came out for Sunday’s ride to South Gippsland.

A check of the photos confirms we have a great variety of people and bikes who come along.

Ian Taylor volunteered to do TEC and once greetings and the examination of an amazing variety of rides was completed, we rode out shortly after 10.00 AM in light mist.  We left the highway after one traffic light and hit the back roads behind the Dandenongs and through orchard country down to Pakenham and on to Garfield

where we met up with more riders and had an relaxed chat along with refreshments.

We then rode south to Catani and used a scenic assortment of back roads while avoiding Loch, Poowong and Inverloch before joining the Bunurong Coastal Route.

Then on to the State Coal Mine café at Wonthaggi for lunch.

Our group size did challenge them, but it is a nice place well worth a visit.

After lunch we used more back roads, found some loose stones near Almurta and took in more back roads before joining the South Gippsland Hwy for our final transit home.

I had a really good day.  Thanks to all who came along and thanks to Sam and Jack for adding some photos.

Cheers John Cook.
