Ride to Werribee to Lorne 2nd August 2026

Two beautiful sunny Sundays in a row and it was great to see so many people come out to enjoy Mike’s ride to Lorne.  I didn’t count but we had a great number of people take part. Great to see “newer” faces turning up regularly plus a member who has rejoined after moving back to Melbourne from the country along with regulars. Andrew’s recruiting at BMW events is certainly showing in participation numbers.

It was over 70 km for me from home to the starting point.

After enjoying a chat and briefing we rode off shortly after

10.00AM with Brian doing TEC duty.  We left suburbia quickly and rode through flat open country,

skirted the You Yangs and Geelong before stopping at Inverleigh for a “cuppa” rest break.

Then it was south through Winchelsea and on to Anglesea where we joined the Great Ocean Road through to Lorne for our lunch stop in a park by the sea.  The Coast was at its best with blue skies and seas

and traffic flowed along at a reasonable clip along the GOR.

After lunch most of us headed north into the Otways

and the scenery around Deans Marsh was great.  I saw two great examples of roadcraft through those hills and two car drivers made use of the slow vehicle turnouts to let us all pass.  They received appreciative nods and waves.      After that it was a long, but hassle free “transport run” back to Melbourne.   Even along Olympic Boulevard and Punt / Hoddle Streets I encountered drivers who happily made room as best they could to allow me to filter through traffic.  They also received signs of appreciation from me.

Great ride and planning thanks Mike and thanks to all who came along. I had a really good day.

Cheers John Cook
